From Escape to Adventure: The Birth of ORB

Unconventional Heroes: How a Personal Journey Inspired a Fictional World

In the world of fiction, inspiration can strike anywhere at any time. For me, the seeds of my ORB Chronicles adventure series were sown during great personal upheaval. In 1979, after living there for two years, my family and I fled Iran. The experience left a lasting mark, prompting me to document it in handwritten notes – a raw mix of personal reflection and the harsh realities we faced.

But amidst the personal story, a spark of fiction ignited. I envisioned ORB, a privately funded organization tackling injustices unconventionally through targeted operations. Based on my firsthand knowledge of the situation, I knew politics would not be enough to fix Iran’s problem. The situation demanded something extraordinary.

Beyond Therapy: Weaving Adventure from Experience

Initially, writing served as a form of therapy to process the often unscrupulous situations and people I’d encountered during my work. But simply writing them down wasn’t enough. There was a yearning for something more – a captivating narrative that pushed the boundaries.

This is where the duality of my job came into play. It wasn’t just about confronting the darkness but also discovering incredible places and people. These positive aspects, I realized, could be the perfect counterpoint to the negativity I’d witnessed. They could be woven into stories that were both thrilling and thought-provoking.

A Team of Heroes: Breaking the Lone Wolf Mold

Let’s face it: who doesn’t love a good adventure? But the lone hero battling insurmountable odds felt a bit overdone. That’s when I revisited the concept of ORB. Instead of a single champion, I imagined a team – a group that could tackle challenges together. This collaborative approach became an experiment in my first novel, “Golden Handcuffs,” and it stuck.

ORB: A World of Possibility

The name ORB? I’ll admit, it wasn’t exactly a stroke of genius at first. But it fit the broader concept I had in mind—a world of possibility where anything could happen. My stories are a blend of fact and fiction, pushed to the edge of believability. As one critic perfectly captured it, they’re “fascinating tapestries of historical facts, rumors, and colorful characters.” That’s exactly the kind of world I aim to create for readers.

The Power of Teamwork: Exploring Diverse Perspectives

What truly excites me about ORB is the flexibility. We can have missions spanning the globe, with different members taking center stage. It allows the story to breathe and explore diverse perspectives. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll delve deeper into the individual stories of these remarkable characters. But that, as they say, is a tale for another time.
